Sowore Leaks Police Memo, Alleges Force In Panic Over #FearlessInOctober Protest

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate, recently leaked a police memo, claiming that the authorities are panicking over the upcoming #FearlessInOctober protest. The protest is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2024, and follows earlier demonstrations, such as the #EndBadGovernance protest in August. Sowore has been a vocal critic of the Nigerian government, highlighting issues such as economic hardship, corruption, and repression.

The leaked memo allegedly shows heightened police concern over the planned protests, with directives for stricter security measures, especially regarding Sowore’s movements. He was briefly detained upon his arrival at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where his passport was seized. This detention, according to Sowore, is part of a broader effort by the government to stifle dissent. Despite these challenges, Sowore remains defiant, emphasizing that these actions won’t stop the protests aimed at addressing the country’s dire socio-political conditions
