Vice President Kashim Shettima and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri will lead discussions on Nigeria’s economy and security at the upcoming 20th All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC), organized by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). The conference, scheduled for November 7-9, 2024, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, will address Nigeria’s economic challenges, media sustainability, and security concerns. This year’s theme is “Economic Growth and Development Strategies in a Resource-Rich Country,” reflecting the urgent need for diverse economic policies as Nigeria grapples with high poverty rates, inflation, and emigration pressures due to limited opportunities.
In addition to Shettima and Diri, other notable attendees include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Media industry leaders, such as THISDAY Chairman Prince Nduka Obaigbena and former Ogun State Governor Chief Segun Osoba, will also contribute insights on the viability and future of journalism, focusing on adapting revenue streams and fair compensation for content.
The conference will provide a platform to discuss both the macroeconomic reforms the government has implemented, such as currency unification and subsidy removal, and the specific challenges facing Nigeria’s media industry in maintaining sustainability amid changing market dynamics.
