The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Chima Anthony Nwigwe, alleged leader of a bank hacking syndicate, along with three accomplices: Effiong Victor Emmanuel, Mohammed Bello Mahmud, Managing Director of Downstone Ultimate Limited, and Daminan Ali. They are suspected of conspiracy, unauthorized access to banking computer systems, and fraudulent withdrawals of depositors’ funds.
The arrests were made during a sting operation in Abuja, following credible intelligence on their suspected role in hacking and compromising commercial bank databases, resulting in unauthorized transfers and withdrawals via various digital platforms.
The suspects will face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
