A Canadian woman has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking in Nigeria.
Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos for smuggling 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic cannabis, into the country. The total weight of the drugs was 35.20 kilograms.
Munju was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, on October 3, 2024, during a routine inspection of passengers in the Arrival Hall.
The court, however, provided an option for Munju to pay a fine of N50 million for each of the two charges, totaling N100 million, as an alternative to serving the prison sentence.
