The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, and Uwakwe Eze in connection with the alleged conspiracy and death of Chikwado Eze, who is reportedly Uwakwe’s son.
In a statement by the police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, it was revealed that Chikwado died after being taken to Odugu’s shrine by his father for a ritual intended to offer spiritual protection.
The ritual reportedly involved placing Chikwado in a coffin as part of the ceremony. Tragically, he died during the process. Though rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His body has been transferred to a mortuary, where an autopsy will be performed.
The police confirmed that the native doctor admitted to conducting the ritual, acknowledging that he had performed similar ceremonies in the past. He attributed Chikwado’s death to the failure to follow specific instructions he had provided for the ritual.
The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges once inquiries are complete, the police command noted.
In a separate case, the Enugu State Police Command also reported the arrest of two individuals—24-year-old Okoro C. Kingsley and 18-year-old Ogbonna Chiedozi—over their alleged conspiracy to murder 52-year-old Mrs. Patience Charles.
According to the police, Kingsley, a former security guard for Mrs. Charles in 2021, held a grudge against her. Both suspects allegedly confessed to strangling her at her residence.
Their arrests were made through intelligence efforts, and they have since been arraigned in court and are being held at the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre.
