On August 6, 2024, Nigerian Army troops were called to action following a distress call about a large gathering of hoodlums burning tires and pelting stones at security personnel in Samaru.
The troops were dispatched to the scene to disperse the crowd and enforce a curfew imposed by the State Government.
In a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, it was reported that upon the troops’ arrival, the hoodlums attempted to attack the soldiers.
In response, a soldier fired a warning shot, which tragically resulted in the death of 16-year-old Ismail Mohammed.
The soldier involved has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation.
