SOKOTO INSECURITY:Nigerian Troops Repel Extremist Ambush in Sokoto State, Sustain Casualties

Troops from Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) were ambushed by suspected extremist groups at Gidan Rana along the Main Supply Route (MSR) connecting Isa and Gudumi in Isa Local Government Area (LGA).

While patrolling the area, Nigerian Army soldiers encountered heavy gunfire but managed to repel the attackers. The exact number of casualties among the assailants is yet to be confirmed.

Unfortunately, one soldier was killed in action (KIA), five others were wounded (WIA), and one personnel remains missing in action (MIA). Additionally, a military vehicle was destroyed during the ambush. The injured troops were promptly evacuated to Isa General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

An immediate follow-up operation was launched to locate the missing personnel. However, details are limited as investigations are ongoing.

This recurring pattern of attacks has heightened security concerns in Sokoto and other parts of Northwest and North-Central Nigeria, where residents and authorities continue to face increasing challenges in maintaining stability.
