Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Lagos have raised concerns over moves to dismantle Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), warning that this could significantly impact local governance and community development. LCDAs, established to bring government closer to the people, provide essential services and create employment opportunities at the grassroots level.
The CSOs argue that dismantling these LCDAs could hinder service delivery, disrupt local economies, and limit residents’ access to government support. They emphasize that LCDAs play a critical role in addressing community-specific needs, allowing for more efficient governance compared to a centralized system. Furthermore, they caution that removing LCDAs may lead to increased political tension and weaken representation in Lagos communities.
