Taiwan urges Nigeria, other countries to support its participation in Interpol, UN climate activities

Taiwan has called on Nigeria and other countries to support its bid for greater participation in international organizations such as Interpol and UN climate initiatives. The Taiwanese government argues that inclusion in these global forums is essential for addressing issues that transcend borders, including crime and climate change. Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Joseph Wu, emphasized that its exclusion from such organizations limits its ability to contribute effectively to international security and environmental efforts.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Wu pointed out that Taiwan possesses valuable expertise and resources that could benefit global efforts in combating transnational crime and addressing climate change. He urged nations, especially those in Africa, to recognize Taiwan’s democratic values and commitment to global cooperation. By allowing Taiwan to participate in these organizations, countries would not only enhance their own security and environmental strategies but also support the principles of inclusivity and collaboration.

Taiwan’s plea comes at a time when it faces increasing diplomatic isolation due to pressure from China, which considers Taiwan a breakaway province. By seeking support from countries like Nigeria, Taiwan aims to forge alliances and bolster its international presence. As climate change and security concerns grow more urgent, the Taiwanese government believes that its participation in key global discussions is vital for the collective efforts of the international community.
