In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Nigeria Police Force arrested 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals, during a raid in Abuja’s Jahi area. The operation, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Benneth Igweh, uncovered substantial evidence linking the suspects to hacking activities and other threats to national security.
The arrests come as part of ongoing efforts by Nigerian law enforcement to combat cybercriminal activities that have impacted both national security and public safety. Investigators recovered various digital tools and devices believed to be used in illicit online activities, including hacking attempts that targeted critical infrastructure.
The large number of foreign nationals among the suspects highlights the transnational nature of cybercrime, with criminal networks often spanning multiple countries. Law enforcement is working closely with national and international agencies to identify further links and prevent future incidents.
The investigation is still underway, and the suspects are expected to face prosecution under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws. Authorities are optimistic that this operation will be a major step toward securing Nigeria’s digital landscape from criminal exploitation.
