U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills commended the generally peaceful conduct of the election and Governor Godwin Obaseki’s appeal for calm. The U.S. urged all stakeholders, including INEC, to respect established electoral processes and follow legal procedures to resolve any disputes surrounding the election results.
Ambassador Mills emphasized that transparency and due process are essential to maintaining public confidence in democracy. The U.S. reaffirmed its support for free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria and continues to monitor the post-election situation closely, particularly as the opposition parties contest the results in court.
