NEMA assesses windstorm disaster in Nasarawa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted an on-the-spot assessment of a windstorm disaster that affected several communities in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on Tuesday, April 16.

During the assessment, it was discovered that six communities in the Local Government had 87 houses destroyed, while 275 houses were partially damaged.

This was disclosed in a post on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) X handle on Wednesday, April 17.

The post reads in parts: ” National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office Jos on Tuesday 16th April 2024 carried out an -the-spot assessment of the wind storm disaster that occured in some communities in Akwanga Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State.

“On the 31st of March 2024, the House of Assembly Member representing Akwanga North Constituency Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa called and alerted the agency of wind storm disaster that ravage his Constituency on the 31st of March 2024 and equested for relief assistance.

“The assessment excircise revealed that about 275 houses were partially damaged while 87 houses were completely damaged in 6 communities in the Local Government.”
