A fire outbreak occurred in the Karu Market on the Federal Capital Territory leaving a trail of destruction and lost.goods worth millions of naira was said to have been destroyed in the inferno.
Senator Ireti Kingibe raised the motion on the floor of the House on how the government can help reconstruct the market as a way to assists the victims whose shops were badly affected.
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio refutes Sen Ireti Kingibes motion almost immediately telling her ” how can the government use their money to rebuild affected markets as her prayer was faulty” he says.
Sen Ireti Kingibe in a motion said ” on the Karu fire outbreak there is need for safer public places i urge the fcda and the Municipal Area Council to offer the shops when rebuilt to the victims at a subsidised and affordable rate in order not to disenfranchise the original owners of the shops i so submit.”
The Senate President response seems not to go down well with the Senator from Kogi central,Natasha uduagha Akpoti as she fires back at Akpabio says the people are the government.
The Senate Presidents words,” so why do you use government money to build community market to maintain the status and hand it back to the community?so wht i am saying is that the prayers are faulty. senator Natasha Akpoti Uduagha seconded Sen Iriti’s motion on the floor of the House challenging Akpabio responce on rebuilt of Karu market which was destroyed by a fire outbreak.
“if your questions has to do with the disbursement of the utilisation of government funds in rebuilding a community market, sir the people are the government, so its like the people using their money to their won advantage so i stand to second the as amended by Sen Ireti Kingibe,sir she said
